Soba Noodle Salad
Had great success with a new recipe today - a cold soba noodle salad; perfect for dinner on a hot summer day.
The basil and chile pepper came from the garden and the soba noodles from Mitsuwa. Maybe next time I will leave out the mango and substitute sweet grape tomatoes from the garden as they are coming out in larger numbers now. Peppers from my Mom's garden next time too.

Poo Vandals Smear Obama Signs
Wow, this is a sick new low. Obama signs on an Arlington Heights lawn were vandalized by someone who smeared them with fecal matter.
It makes you wonder how these poo vandals would support their candidate. Maybe a fertilizer fundraiser?

The Redwalls To Play Arlington Park
This is more than the average bar band that usually plays 'Party At The Park' at Arlington Park. Tomorrow at 7pm, The Redwalls take their 60's-esque sound to the Arlington Park stage for WXRT day. Never heard of The Redwalls? Hailing from Deerfield, they were getting a lot of buzz as the next big thing. Probably worth a trip to the track to see this higher than normal caliber of band.

That story I linked to yesterday about the guy arrested for taking upskirt photos at Frontier Days. Turns out he's a Managing Director at the MacArthur Foundation. Not surprisingly, he lists photography as one of his hobbies on his bio (which I'm guessing will be taken down or edited eventually). Just goes to show, you never know what creepy things lurk behind seemingly normal lives.

Alouettes Release Payton
Here's a Jarrett Payton sighting, though it doesn't find him at a happy time in his football career. He was cut by the Montreal Alouettes of the CFL.
"Everything's always a shock when you don't see it coming," Payton told The Gazette Thursday morning from his Chicago home - the first interview he granted after his release by Montreal on Wednesday. "I really don't know what happened, but a little bit was my injury. The injury opened the door for a switch."
Payton led the Als in rushing in 2007, gaining 852 yards in 13 games while scoring eight touchdowns. But he missed most of training camp this year with an ankle injury and was replaced by Avon Cobourne.

Ready, Set, Go!
Part of me hopes to hear stories of brawls and rampant claim-jumping as people stampede to grab their spots along the parade route.
I don't get the obsession with this particular parade. Never have, never will.
