I love rally racing despite it's lack of coverage in the States. This post in Jalopnik about four classic group B rally cars of the mid-80's is terrific and has lots of great videos. I voted for the Audi Quattro S1

Never Put Your Fingers In Your Eyes

The 'quick instructions' that came with the Nikon D40x, warn you not to put your fingers in your eyes. Phew! Good thing I read the instructions. I was about to do just that!
This oh-so-important warning reminded me of the Kids In The Hall skit - 'Never Put Salt In Your Eyes'.

Tosagata Santoku Hocho
My Tosagata Santoku Hocho knife is finally here! I ordered it months ago after it appeared in Cool Tools, but their post and glowing review triggered a run on the knife.
I opted to wait for the next shipment and it was worth it. This is one bad-ass kitchen knife. Steel wrapped in iron, unpolished with the hammer marks still on the blade. For a 6" blade, it's has a real solid feel that makes you feel like you can take on anything on the cutting board. From the seller's website:
...The master blade-maker sandwiches a layer of Aogami Hagane (blue steel) between two pieces of soft wrought iron, and by hand very slowly hammers the blade into shape. Each blade is then individually tempered to Rockwell c63º. Blue steel gives these blades a tough, long-lasting edge unmatched by any Western made knife. The forging marks are left intact on the surface of the blade. The handles are made from Ho (A relative of the Magnolia) known for its longevity when exposed to water.

80 New Arlington Heights Actors
80 players from the Arlington Cowboys youth football team were chosen to be in a scene of the upcoming movie "The Express" which is being filmed in Blue Island. The 80 were chosen from 200-plus players who tried out. On Saturday, the met at the Christian Liberty Academy (old Arlington High School) to be given uniforms, haircuts and to practice the plays that will be shot in the film. The scene is set in the 40's, so they all received buzz-cuts and their football helmets have no face masks.
'The Express' (scheduled to be released in 2009) will be about the life of Ernie Davis, the first African-American to win the Heisman Trophy in 1961 while playing for Syracuse. He was drafted number 1, but died of leukemia before playing in the NFL.

Let's Start the Internet Revolution
SaveTheInternet.com/Free Press, of which I am a member, asked me to email the following message to five friends. I figured I'd get the message out a little further (hopefully) and post the message here. I've sent my note to the FCC. I hope some of you will do the same.
The FCC needs to hear from you now about the importance of setting aside the public airwaves for a faster, more open and neutral Internet.
I just urged the FCC to protect the public airwaves for the public good. This is our one best chance to make America's Internet more accessible, open and affordable to everyone.
This is critical. The deadline for public comments is fast approaching. Click here to take action to improve the Internet for generations to come:

Thank you

Here's an offer to the groups that marched in the Arlington Heights Memorial Day parade this past weekend. David Gonzalez photographed the parade and wants to share photos he took with the groups that participated. If you are interested in taking him up on his offer, send him an email - david.gonzalez[at]mindspring.com . (don't forget to replace the [at] with @ before emailing - damn spammers...)
Here are some photos he took of Arlington Heights VFW Post 981 in the parade. Thanks David!
