Cats In Sinks

'Cats In Sinks' is just that; a collection of photos of cats in sinks.
I submitted the picture of Foo below, to the site. We'll see if it makes the cut. Surprisingly, it was the only cat in sink picture I could find. There were cat in toilet, in pot, and in clothes dryer, but only one in a sink. How odd. I did find Foo last night in the bottom of my paper shredder, playing with the strips at the bottom. She jumped out before I when I showed up with the camera. I think she was embarrassed.

Katrina Daze

Inga and I have become news channel junkies the past couple of days with the New Orleans / Gulf Coast hurricane Katrina disaster. We are completely sucked in to watching it all unfold. There is a comic adage that tragedy plus time equals comedy. I think it is going to be a long time for that equation works out.

Old Postings

The postings from the HarvardAvenue.com site will begin to migrate to this .net site. Postings that have the category of 'Harvard Avenue 3.0' are the posts that were done through Blogger. Harvard Avenue 1.0/2.0 are posts before that.

Two New Coffee Shops in Town

Two new coffee shops are coming to Arlington Heights. First is a Java Depot to be put in the remodeled Arlington Park train station. The second will be a cafe operated by Clearbrook at the corner of Central and Wilke. Called the Clearbrook Cafe, it will be used to raise funds for Clearbrook programs and to provide opportunities for developmentally challenged persons that they assist. Great Idea!

What Was In Buddy Holly's Overnight Bag

Here is a neat little tidbit on the web. Buddy Holly's overnight bag, that he took on his fatal plane ride, was recovered after the crash and given to his brother who kept it under his bed until 1989. (Doesn't do a lot of spring cleaning I guess. Imagine the size of those dust bunnies.)

Want to take a peak inside the bag?

Balcony Collapse

Five people had minor injuries when the balcony they were on in the Tanglewood Apartments in Arlington Heights, collapsed. Looks like the building inspectors will be busy on Monday.

Don't you love how the Daily Herald tries to draw comparisons between this relatively minor event (though a close call - luckily there was no one underneath.) to the porch collapse in Chicago two summers ago that killed 12 people? Please!

Kelly Oldsmobile Demolition

Kelly Olds DemolitionKelly Oldsmobile has been closed for awhile now, but now it is truly meeting it's end as the wrecking ball has gone to work. Brownstone-style townhouses are going up in its place.

When the demolition is complete, maybe it will exorcise their old radio jingle that is stuck in my head from childhood. (...has anybody here seen Kelly? Kelly Olds in Arlington Heights! ) AARGH!!!!

New Arlington Heights Restaurants: Here and on the Horizon

There are two new restaurants on the horizon in downtown Arlington Heights and one that just opened.

fuego

First is Fuego at 25 W. Campbell St.(Next to Regina's, near the corner of Vail and Campbell. If the food is as good as the remodeling job they have done on this building, it will be exceptional. The old resale shop has been transformed to a very cool looking restaurant at the very least. Can't wait to try it.

Carlos & Carlos

Carlos & Carlos is located in the Metropolis Performing Arts Centre building at 111 W. Campbell St. I haven't seen much going on here, so I hope they have not hit a snag in opening. It seems like a good location, but the casualties at that location are mounting.

Takkatsu

Last but not least is Takkatsu, tucked away on 161 Wing St., which just opened for business this week. Takkatsu is a Tonkatsu restaurant which means they specialize in a lightly fried breaded pork cutlet among other things. From what I have researched, Takkatsu was formerly in Winnetka and has quite a following despite the relocation taking a long time. I'll give this place a shot soon and post a review.

World's Ugliest Dog

world's ugliest dogsSam has won the 'World's Ugliest Dog' competition for the third straight year and it is easy to see why. The dog looks like he got pulled out of a deep fryer. There is a wire story hitting all the papers that is actually touching. Sam and his person have a blog which is worth a visit to check out more photos. One of a kind (Thank God!).
