Micro-burst and Power Outages

The power just came back on after going out around 7:30 Monday night. We were blasted by a short but powerful thunderstorm that knocked out the power and a lot of branches as well as uprooting a tree a block over. It was a long hot night without the fans. Even the cats abandoned us for cooler spots. The goods news is that it is finally raining with more rain on the way. Keeping our fingers crossed that that the drought will end!

Now it is time to see if anything in the fridge didn't make it.

Arlington Heights Car Wash's French Connection

The Northwest Auto Wash on Euclid and Northwest Highway was a stop for French cyclists for the sixth consecutive year. Owner Dan Palenske hooked up with the cyclist six years ago when the cyclists found that the owner of the car wash/truck rental business had been the president of the International Car Wash Association.

Arlington Heights Golden Rule Amendment

Arlington Heights trustees voted a 'Golden Rule' into the village code, to counter a swell of complaints originating from the home construction/remodeling boom. Basically it says to work at reasonable hours and stay off/not restrict access to the neighbors property. Just a reminder to the contractors to show common sense. Unfortunately, you have to have a rule in the books about it.

Quote For My Missouri Family Members

The New York Times has an article about the Sci-Fi channel's production of 'B-movies'. (28 films for $21 million). Please remember to use BugMeNot to bypass the NY Times login.

The reason for this post however is to pass along a little quote from B-movie icon, Bruce Campbell that my Missouri family members may find amusing.

"Shot on budgets ranging from $1 million to $2 million, Sci Fi's movies are made in money-saving locales like Bulgaria, Romania and Missouri."

Personal London Terror Bombing Coincidence

Not to make light of the London subway/bus bombings that we all woke up to in the U.S. but it was weird enough to mention. After watching the coverage, I was catching up on my email and read one that I received from PBS travel guru, Rick Steves. Where was he writing from? London. Okay, maybe not that big a coincidence.

Kansas City Over The Fourth

We are back from a brief vacation in K.C. We had a good time with Inga's parents, got together with an old friend of Inga's, ate a good Mongolian meal and generally decompressed.

On the way home we stopped by Columbia, MO to visit Inga's alma mater, the University of Missouri. Lots of reminiscing!Kansas City Over The Fourth

Harvard Avenue Inc.

Due to business opportunities, I have incorporated and what better name than Harvard Avenue Inc. for a business! I like the Harvard Avenue name but always thought it was a better business name than a hip cool personal blog name. After some soul searching and a desire to switch away from 'Blogger', I have decided to change HarvardAvenue.com from my personal site to my business site.

I'm choosing a new name for the personal site right now. Man, every name I come up with is taken! All I can say for now is expect an announcement and move in the future. There are lots of things going on, so I do not have a time estimate.
