It Wasn't Me, I Swear

For the record, I was not the guy holed up in his house on Harvard Avenue in an all-night stand off with the Arlington Heights police department. I was a block away and I slept through the entire thing; gunshots, tear gas, and several towns police forces including an armored car going past the house did not wake me up. Inga did hear gunshots and yelling around 4:30 a.m., which turns out to be when they flooded the guys house with tear gas and he surrendered. Being the street hardened person that she is, she rolled over and went back to sleep.

As of dinner time, the Arlington Heights police were still at the house collecting evidence. Many of the windows of the house are broken where they lobbed in the tear gas. Small groups of area folks gathered on the sidewalk across the street from the house all day. Traffic was up as people drove by to check it out.

I can only imagine what the neighbors of that guy are thinking tonight. I don't know anyone personally on that block, but we call it 'the kid block' as there are so many families with small children playing outside in the summertime. How does one feel with an armed stand-off just outside your door and being evacuated in the middle of the night with a house full of small kids? I'd be pretty upset right now as I assume many a block away are.
