Let's Fill In A Gap
As you may have noticed, the posting has been a light lately. A new project has been keeping me busy especially during the times when I used to post, but I'm having a good time and it's starting to pay off (knock on wood).
Things have been going on. Last Friday, Inga and I stocked up on plants at the Chicago Botanic Garden's annual plant sale and saw Eddie Izzard that evening at the Chicago Theater. About as fine a day you can have except I couldn't squeeze a nap into it. :)
Lots of garden activity has gone on. As of this holiday weekend it looks like all the major work in the backyard has been done. For the most part the beds and pots are filled with plants and Inga has everything where she wants...for now. The front yard needs some attention in the coming weeks. Saturday and Sunday were spent shoveling and spreading 10 yards of mulch around the beds. The pile was about the size of my car, but we got it done.
The part of the garden that I am most excited about are the new rain barrels that I hooked up a few weekends ago. They're recycled barrels that were used to import pickles and olives from Peru and hold 68 gallons each. Believe it or not, the steady rain last night filled them to the top. With all of Inga's pots that need daily watering, it will be put to good use right away.
