A.H. CFL Recycling

Arlington Heights is taking part in the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County's (SWANCC) compact fluorescent light bulb (CFLs) recycling program along with other area towns. The twisty CFLs can be dropped off at the Arlington Heights Village Hall, but they are not accepting the 4-foot tubes. The SWANCC site has a list of other drop-off points and where you can drop off those pesky 4-foot tubes (like the ones I have been collecting in the basement).

CFLs have a tiny amount of Mercury in them, not enough to be hazardous if broken individually, but thousands/millions in a landfill would add up to toxic mess. So like all the computer/electronic waste, be responsible - save them up - and drop them off so they can be disposed of responsibly.
